Following a preliminary examination this afternoon, Judge James N. Erhart, Jr. of the 90^th District Court found probable cause to believe that Albert James Grams, Jr., 38, East Jordan committed six counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct, First Degree, as well as Torture, Home Invasion, First Degree, Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration and Interfering with Electronic Communications Causing Injury and bound Grams over for trial on all charges.

Since Grams was previously convicted of three or more felonies, including a serious felony, he faces a habitual offender enhancement which carries with it a mandatory 25-year minimum sentence if he is convicted on each of the Criminal Sexual Conduct offenses and the Torture and Home Invasion counts.  The charges also carry discretionary consecutive sentences.  The maximum penalty on each of these eight counts is life in prison.

Charlevoix County Prosecuting Attorney Allen Telgenhof called the victim to testify as well as another woman who testified that she was aware that the victim did not want Grams in her home.

According to Telgenhof, the victim testified that in the early morning hours of February 5, 2016, Grams entered her home and assaulted her physically and sexually for nearly two hours.  The victim testified that Grams also threatened and berated her and threw her cell phone away from her so that she could not call 911.

The case now moves to the 33^rd Circuit Court where Judge Roy C. Hayes III will conduct a scheduling conference at a date to be determined.

Grams is currently held at the Charlevoix County Jail without bond.

The charges against Grams are mere allegations at this time and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
