Jury Convicts East Jordan Man of Criminal Sexual Abuse of a Minor

After a day and a half of trial, Shawn Christopher Kreager, 41, of East Jordan was convicted this afternoon by a jury in the 33rd Circuit Court in Charlevoix County of three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree.

Charlevoix County Prosecuting Attorney Allen Telgenhof tried the case for the State of Michigan.

A nine year old child testified that Kreager engaged in three instances of sexual contact with her in the summer of 2015.  The case was investigated by the East Jordan Police Department with the assistance of the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Department.

“I want to thank the jury for their time and their consideration,” Telgenhof said.  “It was not an easy case to listen to, it’s difficult to understand why someone would do something like this to a child.  The victim was so brave to testify against the defendant and did the right thing in telling people what had happened to her.”

Criminal Sexual Conduct, Second Degree is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.  Kreager will be sentenced on January 22, 2016 by Circuit Judge Roy C. Hayes III.  Kreager’s bond was revoked immediately after the verdict and he will be incarcerated pending sentencing.

He will be placed on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry for his lifetime and will have lifetime electronic monitoring as a result of the conviction after he is released from prison.
